More great news today. First of all Mom is getting a lot stronger. She’s improved by 20x in just a few days. You can see a picture of her sitting up here and below she’s walking around. Today she amazed the doctors and the physiotherapy staff by walking around the entire floor, it’s great news. Also by 7:45am, she was dressed and wanted to get out of the hospital robe because she wanted a change of clothing (also a great sign).

Her bloodwork is back to normal the nursing staff tell me. Her memory is getting better as well. All of this is pointing to great news.
The best news of all is that we have successfully negotiated a transfer to Scarborough General Hospital from Timmins. She should arrive in 24-36 hours. This is great because this hospital has better resources and also has a direct link to Toronto General East Hospital which is where Mom will undergo surgery and chemo for the cancer.

My brother and I walk into the room and our jaw hits the floor. Mom is sitting down on side of bed eating lunch. Soup and sandwich is on the menu and she's eating by herself with no prompting from us. Also more good news. We found out today that the type of lung cancer she has is ‘non-small cell’ which is a good things, it’s not as aggressive. That being said lung cancer isn’t easy and is one of the toughest ones to beat.

However, because she wasn’t admitted to the hospital for cancer and they essentially ‘stumbled’ onto the cancer, we have a reasonable chance of beating this thing (so far).

I’ve found a Radiologist who’s taking a second look at the diagnotistic imaging. We also have a Respirologist and a Thoracic Surgeon on the team who’s ready to kick the cancer’s ass when it’s time. All of the necessary specialists are on board and ready to kick ass when it’s time.

For now, the game plan is Mom comes to Scarborough, we will dilate her oesophagus so she can eat more, get stronger and get her memory back. Once this happens, in a few weeks, we’ll attack this cancer.
