Outside of sprints there was no real focus on doing pull ups, push ups, different squat variations, or even jumps.
My coaches were all about the big lifts like squats, bench, and the power clean.
It was all about lifting heavy weights.
Now, while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that as I train with heavy weights all the time, it’s bodyweight training that really helps fill the gaps and it wasn’t until my senior year in college that I really started to add in more bodyweight specific training back into my programming as a main staple that I really started to see better results.
It was that summer that I got faster, more explosive, bigger, and leaner all at the same time but just adding in more bodyweight training.
It was like my results got put on hyper-drive and ever since then, I’ve never looked back as bodyweight training is now a solid component within ALL of my training programs not only for myself but for all of my athlete’s training programs as well.

One my favorite workouts I remember most was when I was in Rio on Copacabana Beach where I did squats, bar muscle ups, and sprints in the sand.
It was amazing as they had pull up bars and dip stations about every quarter mile along the beach for as far as you could see.
So, I would sprint in the sand, then crank push ups, dips, squats, and muscle ups.
